Styx - Hand Crafted Mexican Bocote Wood Guitar Pick Necklace
Designed and Crafted by: Jesse Esquivel
"Each piece is it's own little work of Nature's Art…”
Fan-Made: Handcrafted in USA for Styx
Custom handcrafted Guitar Pick pendant, hanging off of a 20” long X 3 mm thick Black leather necklace, with silver plated copper ends, & a solid sterling silver lobster clasp with precision laser engraving of the Styx Logo on both sides of the pendant. Designed and crafted by Jesse Esquivel.
Each guitar pick pendant is shaped and crafted individually. I hand sand every piece super smooth and then treat each piece with mineral oil, & natural bees wax. I soak each pick in the mineral oil to allow the oil to deeply penetrate the wood and then apply the bees wax & hand rub each pick to super smoothness. The pick/pendants are actually functional guitar picks, with the engraved design acting as a form of grip, & if you perspire or moisten your finger-tips, it actually improves your grip. They are also friendly to the Environment as they will decompose naturally, unlike plastic or many other substrates that are commonly used for making guitar picks.

BOCOTE - Cordia Elaeagnoides
The tree is native to Mexico, Central America, and South America Sometimes sold as Cordia spp.
Bocote is a hard, dense, and fairly oily tropical wood that is highly prized for its dramatic, wild striping. These dark brown or black streaks, which sometimes form in concentric circles, give Bocote its defining look and lend finished products a truly distinctive appearance. The heartwood of Bocote ranges in color from brown to golden brown — with, of course, those telltale dark streaks weaving throughout — and its sapwood is yellowish. Bocote's grain can vary widely, from straight to interlocked. A very strong, and dense exotic wood.
About Jesse Esquivel
“What can I say...I love working with wood!
Especially exotic wood. Each piece is its own little work of Nature's Art! I have been working with wood for the better part of my life. My Dad was a cabinet maker by trade, & he taught me at a very early age to never rush a project, & don't even think of cutting corners, & to just let my own creativity & passion drive my woodworking ambitions. His ‘Old School’ ways and work ethic are what drive me today, & I know that with each piece that I produce, there is big part of my Dad in it as well.
My Dad is retired now, and is over 80 years old, but he still keeps himself busy by helping out everybody he knows whenever he can. Whenever I decide to make something out of rare or very rare wood, I make certain that the wood used is re-claimed, salvaged, or from a sustainable harvest. I really enjoy working in my small ‘One Artisan’ shop, & I hope that you find joy in the products I create”.
